Why are there fewer seeds in my packet than what you used to sell?


We work very hard to provide an extensive range of affordable seed varieties for New Zealand gardeners and growers. However the costs of producing seed globally have risen significantly over recent years due to factors such as increased labour costs, oil prices, fertiliser etc. In addition New Zealand has very strong biosecurity requirements for the importation of seed for sowing. For some species this requires that the seed is tested for viruses and viroids at a cost of up to $1600 per seed lot! As a result we have had to lower the number of seeds of some species like tomatoes, capsicum, chilli , melons, cucumbers, zucchini and pumpkin/squash.
